Pico FX

About: Pico FX

Pico FX uses Cutera’s Enlighten picosecond technology with a Micro Lens Array (MLA) to deliver tiny beams of ultra-short fractionated laser energy deep into the skin to create small, gentle micro-wounds. These controlled micro-injuries stimulate fresh collagen, the protein that keeps your skin firm and elastic, while also targeting unwanted pigment like freckles, sunspots and melasma. It’s an effective option for improving texture, scarring, ageing, fine lines, skin discolourations (including melasma) and visible pores, giving the skin a smoother, brighter, more even look.

Pico FX is suitable for all skin types, including darker skin tones, and is ideal if you’re wanting fast, effective results and are comfortable with a little downtime.

The Details
  • Results

For targeted results, three sessions spaced six weeks apart, followed by a review is generally recommended. Ongoing maintenance is important too, as pigment—especially melasma—can return. The number of treatments and timing will always be personalised and reviewed by your clinician based on your unique concerns.

  • Who isn't suitable

This treatment isn’t suitable if you’re pregnant, currently taking oral isotretinoin, or unable to allow for the required downtime.

  • Treatment preparation

If you’re prone to cold sores, take an over-the-counter preventative beforehand to reduce the chance of one flaring up after treatment.

  • Expected outcomes

Most clients get moderate to heavy redness after PicoFX, almost like tiny red dots (petechiae), which can be temporary or last up to 5–7 days. During this time, any treated sunspots or freckles will darken before they fade. Some people also get a histamine response (itching or little bumps) which settles on its own and can be eased with an over-the-counter antihistamine.

  • What to expect

Most people describe it as a light ‘electric rain’ sensation, and sometimes a hotter snapping feeling, but it’s quick and settles within minutes.

  • Post treatment care

Go gentle on your skin for the next five days, or until everything has settled. Use a mild cleanser morning and night, plus your moisturiser and any post-care recommended. Avoid direct sun, and make sure you’re wearing a high SPF (and a hat) whenever you’re outdoors.
